Huntingdon holds on to beat Methodist in overtime

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team held off a late rally by Methodist to earn an 81-78 win on Saturday.

Tied 76-76 in overtime, Mykel Woods gave Huntingdon the lead for good with 2:02 to play. Woods scored, was fouled and sank a free throw to put the Hawks ahead by three points.

Methodist cut Huntingdon's lead to 79-78 with 1:06 remaining before a Kyante Pines basket made it 81-78 with 59 seconds to play. Huntingdon missed four free throws in the final 35 seconds but was able to hold on to the three-point lead.

Seven Hawks scored eight or more points in the win. Pines led the Hawks with 12 points and five rebounds, Isaiah King added 11 points and three assists and B.J. Barker had 10 points.

James Harris finished with nine points and five rebounds, Scotty Chadwick and Jacob Champion each had nine points and three steals and Aaron Washington followed with eight points. Woods pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to go with two blocks

During the first 40 minutes, Huntingdon trailed for less than a minute. The Hawks led for the final 12:07 of the first half and carried a 36-23 lead into halftime. In the second half, Huntingdon built a 16-point lead and led until the final minute.

Methodist chipped away at the Hawks' lead and tied the game 70-70 with 44 seconds left in regulation. A basket by King put Huntingdon in front 72-70 with 20 seconds remaining in regulation before Methodist scored with two seconds to play to force overtime.
