Huntingdon edges Bob Jones for first win of the season

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 92-89 victory over Bob Jones on Friday in the LaGrange Thanksgiving Tournament.

Five players scored in double figures to help the Hawks score 61 second-half points and rally from a double-digit deficit to earn the win.

Huntingdon fell behind by as many as 15 points in the first half and trailed by 13 points early in the second half. Trailing 54-41 with less than 16 minutes to play, the Hawks chipped away at Bob Jones' lead and began to take control.

During a span of a little less than eight minutes, Huntingdon outscored the Bruins 33-18 to take its first lead of the game. The Hawks began the run with a 3-pointer by senior Aaron Washington with 15:30 to play. A 3-pointer by Washington with 7:33 left gave the Hawks a 74-72 lead.

In between Washington's pair of 3-pointers, sophomores Damien Madison and Caleb Toney combined to score 15 points during the run and juniors Ceaunte Zachery and James Harris and seniors Cam Boyd and Thomas Green combined for 12 points.

Huntingdon would not trail again in the game, but the Hawks would not be able to clinch the game until the final minute.

Huntingdon built its biggest lead of the night, 87-79, on a basket by Zachery with 3:11 remaining. The Hawks maintained at least a six-point lead until the final minute when the Bruins cut the score to 89-86 with 58 seconds to play.

A pair of free throws by Zachery with 43 seconds remaining and one free throw from Charvez' Hobson gave Huntingdon a 92-86 lead with 23 seconds to play before the Bruins hit a 3 at the buzzer.

Madison, Washington, Hobson, Zachery and Toney combined for 71 of the Hawks' points. Madison led all scorers with 20 points and Washington was 4-for-6 from 3-point range and finished with 16 points.

Hobson had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds, Zachery totaled 12 points and a team-high seven assists and Toney had 10 points. Harris had six assists to go with seven points.
