Huntingdon men’s golf in 10th after first round of Golfweek Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – Four golfers shot 80 or better on Sunday, but the Huntingdon men's golf team is in 10th after the first round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Club.

Freshman Steven Smith shot a 3-over-par 74 (tied for 18th) and junior Sam Strachan shot a 4-over 75 (tied for 26th) to lead the Hawks in the first round. Guilford College's Noah Ratner shot the best round of the day with a 5-under 66. Hudson Keener (LaGrange College) is second with a 3-under 68 and Thad Wiser III (St. John Fisher College) is third at 2-under 69.

Guilford College leads the team standings at 6-over 290. The University of Texas-Tyler is in second at 291. Huntingdon is 16 strokes off the lead and in 10th at 306.

Behind Smith and Strachan, sophomore Jamey Lester shot a 6-over77 for the Hawks and is tied for 38th. Sophomore Rodes Bowers shot an 80 and sophomore Cates Culpepper shot 107 to round out Huntingdon's scores.
