Strachan and Lester lead Huntingdon men’s golf in first round of Royal Lakes Fall Classic
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Junior Sam Strachan and sophomore Jamey Lester each shot 2-over-par 73 on Monday to help the Huntingdon men's golf team start strong in the Royal Lakes Fall Classic.
The two Huntingdon golfers are tied for eighth and are seven strokes out of first place entering the final round on Tuesday at Royal Lakes Country Club.
As a team, Huntingdon shot 300 in the first round and is in sixth place. Christopher Newport leads the field at 292. Greensboro and LaGrange are tied for second at 297, California Lutheran is fourth at 298 and Birmingham-Southern is fifth at 299.
Christopher Newport's Joe Evans led the field with a 5-under 66 on Monday. LaGrange's Hunter Keener and Southwestern University's Mikey Vaughan each shot 1-under 70 and are tied for second.
All five Huntingdon golfers shot in the 70s in the opening round. Behind Strachan and Lester, freshman Thomas Mitchell and sophomore Griffin Just both shot 6-over 77 and freshman Steven Smith shot an 8-over 79.
