Bowers’ 73 leads men’s golf in Rd. 1 of Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Rodes Bowers shot a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Huntingdon men's golf team in the opening round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Monday.

As a team, the Hawks shot 303 and are in third entering Tuesday's final round at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club. The Hawks were in second until late in the round.

"Round 1 was very disappointing. We lost seven shots on the final three holes," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We have to do a better job of eliminating our mistakes. It's time for our boys to step up and bounce back on Tuesday."

Wittenberg, ranked first in the Golf World/Nike Division III Coaches' Poll, leads the 10-team field with a 290 and seventh-ranked LaGrange is second at 300.

Bowers is two strokes off the lead and tied for fourth. Wittenberg's John Chaney and David Wetterich tied for the first-round lead at 1-under 71 on Monday.
