Huntingdon men’s golf places third in Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 308 in the final round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate on Tuesday to finish third with a score of 611. The Hawks shot 303 in the opening round.

Senior Rodes Bowers finished fifth individually with a score of 150. Bowers shot a 1-over-par 73 on Monday and a 5-over 77 on Tuesday.

"Rodes had a good tournament. He's been having a solid season and finishing in the top 5 today was good for him," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "As a team, we played OK, but this was not a great event for us. This was disappointing coming off our final round at Jekyll Island. We have to go back to work, regroup and get ready for the Emory Spring Invitational."

Wittenberg, ranked first in the Golf World/Nike Division III Coaches' Poll, won the tournament with a two-round total of 592. Three of Wittenberg's golfers finished in the top four individually.

Seventh-ranked LaGrange was second at 608. LaGrange's Cory Howard shot the best round on Tuesday at 1-over 73 and was the tournament medalist at 1-over 145.

Senior Griffin Just turned in Huntingdon's best round on Tuesday with a 2-over 74 and finished the tournament tied for ninth at 153. Senior Jamey Lester had a 4-over 76 in the final round and finished tied for 14th at 155. Junior Steven Smith and freshman Will Thrash each finished tied for 18th at 157.

Playing as an individual, sophomore David James tied for 9th at 153 and freshman Taylor Buckholtz shot 172 for the two rounds.

Huntingdon plays in the Emory Spring Invitational on April 7-8.
