Men’s golf two strokes back after Rd. 1 of USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 314 on Friday and is two strokes off the lead entering the second day of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

LaGrange is first at 312 and Greensboro is second at 313. Just behind Huntingdon, Methodist is fourth at 318.

A pair of seniors led Huntingdon on Friday at Benvenue Country Club. Rodes Bowers and Griffin Just both shot 4-over-par 76 and are tied for fifth. North Carolina Wesleyan's Chris Freeman leads the field with a 1-over 73.

Behind Bowers and Just, sophomore David James and freshman Will Thrash each shot 81 and junior Steven Smith shot 82.

"It was a windy day on a tricky course. The boys were not happy with their play, but we are only two strokes back," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "A chip here and a putt there can make the difference in a tight field like this. We're looking to improve in Saturday's round."
