Men’s golf finishes 4th in USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 315 in the final round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday and finished fourth in the three-round tournament with a score of 940.

LaGrange won the conference championship with a score of 916, Methodist was second at 920 and Greensboro was third at 928.

Junior Steven Smith led the Hawks in the final round with a 1-under-par 71. His three-round total of 231 tied for ninth. Senior Rodes Bowers tied for 12th at 233 and senior Griffin Just tied for 16th at 236. Freshman Will Thrash finished with a score of 245 and sophomore David James shot 249 in the tournament.

LaGrange's Cory Howard was the tournament medalist with a 5-over 221.

"This wasn't the way we wanted to end the season, but we had a good run this year," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We had a number of chances in the fall and spring but we were not able to put it together when it counted.

"It was nice to see Steven finish with a solid round today. It was a great way for him to end the season. It was tough to watch Rodes and Griffin play their final rounds as Hawks. They have been great representatives of Huntingdon golf and will be missed."
