Men’s golf bounces back with 288 in Rd. 2 of Fall Preview Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 597 in the first two rounds of the Fall Preview Championship on Sunday.

After shooting 309 in the first round, the Hawks turned in the third best score in Round 2 with a 288. Huntingdon is in eighth entering Monday's round at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center.

"Today was a tale of two rounds," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "The morning round left the boys very angry and determined to right the ship. Firing even-par in Round 2 was good for us. We have a good team. We just need to gain some confidence and that is going to come with success."

Oglethorpe leads the 18-team field at 574, Illinois Wesleyan is second at 580 and Wittenberg is third at 583.

Sophomore Will Thrash led Huntingdon with a 1-over-par 73 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second round and is tied for eighth at 1-over 145 after 36 holes. Freshman Peter Scrimgeour shot a 5-over 77 in the first round but bounced back with a 2-under 70 in the second round and a 3-over 147 for the day.

Junior David James shot 155 in the two rounds, including a 2-over 74 in Round 2 and freshman Mac Harris shot an even-par 72 in the second round to finish the day with a 158. Freshman Garrett Harrison also shot 158.

Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia turned in the best two rounds on Sunday, firing a 4-under 68 in the first round and a 5-under 67 in the second round for a 9-under 135. Illinois Wesleyan's Tim Tynan fired the best round of the day with a 6-under 66 in Round 2.
