Men’s golf finishes 12th in Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot its second best round of the fall in the final round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational.

The Hawks shot 291 on Tuesday to finish the three-round tournament in 12th with a 906.

Methodist and the University of Texas-Tyler were tournament co-champions at 869. Methodist's Mason Stutler and Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia shared medalist honors, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 4-under-par 209.

All five Huntingdon golfers shot 75 or better in the final round with junior David James and freshman Mac Harris each shooting an even-par 71, sophomore Will Thrash shooting a 3-over 74 and freshmen Peter Scrimgeour and Alan Anderson shooting 4-over 75.

James finished with a three-round total of 221, followed by Thrash at 222, Harris at 227, Scrimgeour at 236 and Anderson at 238.

"I was really proud of the boys today," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "They put the last two days behind them and that showed some guts. I have to keep reminding myself that the majority of our team is just freshmen and sophomores and we're going through a growing process. We really have some good talent and we are close to putting it together. Today's score is the kind of score these guys are capable of shooting every round. Soon, they will realize how good they are."
