Men’s Golf in 4th after Rd. 1 of Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team turned in a strong showing in its first round of the spring season.

The Hawks shot 300 in the opening round of the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate and are in fourth place entering Sunday's final round. Huntingdon trails tournament-leader Guilford by seven strokes.

"I was proud of the way the boys hung in there today with the best in the country," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We had some stretches of great golf today. Sitting in fourth going into Sunday, only seven strokes back, keeps us within striking distance. Sunday is going to be fun. I think the boys are looking forward to the challenge."

Guilford leads the field at 293, LaGrange is second at 297 and Oglethorpe is third at 298. Playing as an individual, LaGrange's Ryan Najiim turned in Saturday's low round with a 3-under-par 69.

Huntingdon junior David James is tied for seventh with a 1-over 73 and sophomore Will Thrash shot 3-over 75. Freshman Garrett Harrison and senior Steven Smith are both 4-over at 76. Freshman Peter Scrimgeour shot a 6-over 78. Playing as an individual, freshman Mac Harris shot 81.
