Men’s golf tied for 4th after Rd. 1 of USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 306 in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.

Entering the second round at Benvenue Country Club, the Hawks are tied for fourth in the nine-team tournament. LaGrange leads the field at 287, Ferrum is second at 298 and Methodist is third at 302.

Greensboro is tied with Huntingdon at 306 and Averett and Maryville are one stroke behind the Hawks at 307 and tied for sixth.

LaGrange's Cory Howard, the USA South Golfer of the Year, turned in the best round on Friday with a 3-under-par 69.

Freshman Mac Harris led Huntingdon with a 2-over 74 and is tied for ninth. Junior David James shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 17th. Senior Steven Smith and sophomore Garrett Harrison each shot 78 and are tied for 25th and sophomore Will Thrash shot 79 and is tied for 29th.

The USA South Tournament will continue on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
