Huntingdon men in third entering Rd. 2 of Rhodes Classic

TUNICA, Miss. – The Huntingdon men's golf team turned in its best round of the fall with a 298 on Sunday in the opening round of the Rhodes College Fall Classic.

Entering the final round on Monday, the Hawks are 10 strokes off the lead and in third place. Southwestern University and Berry College are tied for first at 288.

"The boys got off to a great start today and we played very solid for most of the day. But, once again, we finished with a collapse and lost seven shots on the final holes," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "This is a very good team and we will figure this out. It's early in the season and we are still ironing out the wrinkles.

"We will be in the final group again tomorrow and I am looking forward to seeing how we react."

Junior Addison Lambeth and sophomore Chase Feagin are both within three strokes of first after the opening round. Lambeth shot an even-par 72 on Sunday and is tied for sixth. Feagin shot a 1-over 73 and is tied for eighth.

Berry's Ryan Elmore leads the field with a 2-under 70.

Behind Lambeth and Feagin, junior Will Thrash shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 26th. Freshman Stephen Shephard shot a 5-over 77 and senior David James shot a 6-over 78. Playing as an individual, sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland shot a 5-over 77.
