Huntingdon tied for 5th in Royal Lakes Invitational

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team matched its best round of the fall with a 298 on Monday in the opening round of the Royal Lakes Invitational.

Entering Tuesday's final round, the Hawks are 11 strokes off the lead and tied for fifth in the 16-team tournament.

"Today was a below average day for us. We looked good at times, but we made too many mistakes," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We're hoping to get off to a better start on Tuesday and try to put some pressure on the teams in front of us."

First-place Spalding shot 287 on Monday. Oglethorpe is second at 292, followed by LaGrange in third at 293 and Transylvania in fourth at 296. Huntingdon is tied with Washington & Lee in fifth.

Spalding's Jonathon Gandia and Transylvania's Nicholas McCarthy each shot 4-under-par 68 in the first round and are tied for first. Huntingdon junior Will Thrash is four strokes off the lead and tied for eighth with an even-par 72.

Junior Addison Lambeth is six strokes out of first and tied for 22nd at 2-over 74 and freshman Stephen Shephard is tied for 33rd at 3-over 75. Junior David James shot a 5-over 77 and sophomore Chase Feagin shot a 6-over 78.

Playing as an individual, junior Chad Ring is tied for 22nd at 2-over 74.
