Ring ties for 4th; Hawks finish 7th in Royal Lakes Invitational

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Huntingdon junior Chad Ring fired a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday in the final round of the Royal Lakes Invitational and finished tied for fourth.

As a team, Huntingdon finished seventh with a two-round 594.

Playing as an individual, Ring's 3-under was the best round on Tuesday and the second best round of the tournament. Ring, who shot a 2-over 74 on Monday, finished the tournament three strokes off the lead with a 1-under 143.

"It was great to see Chad play well," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "He has such a great game and I hope this round will give him a confidence boost."

Greensboro's John Grimes was the tournament medalist with a 4-under 140. Grimes shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round and a 1-under 71 on Tuesday.

Spalding, who led by five strokes with a 287 after the first round, won the tournament by six strokes with a 583.

Five strokes separated second through seventh place. LaGrange and Transylvania tied for second at 589, Washington & Lee was fourth at 590, Oglethorpe was fifth at 591, followed by Christopher Newport in sixth at 592 and Huntingdon in seventh.

The Hawks turned in their best round of the fall on Tuesday with a 296. The 594 is the best two-round total of the fall for Huntingdon.

Each of the Hawks' four counting scores were identical on Tuesday as juniors Will Thrash, Addison Lambeth and David James and sophomore Chase Feagin each shot 2-over 74. Freshman Stephen Shephard shot 5-over 77.

Thrash finished the tournament tied for 10th with a 2-over 146 and Lambeth tied for 20th with a 4-over 148. James shot 151 and Feagin and Shephard each finished with a two-round total of 152.
