Men’s golf in 7th after Rd. 1 of Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team continued its fall improvement on Sunday in the opening round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational.

For the third straight tournament, the Hawks opened with their best round of the fall. After shooting 298 in the opening round of the Rhodes College Fall Classic and the Royal Lakes Invitational, Huntingdon shot 293 on Sunday at the Raven Golf Club.

Entering Monday's second round, the Hawks are 13 strokes out of first and in seventh in the 18-team tournament. The University of Texas-Tyler leads the tournament at 4-under-par 280. Methodist is second at 2-under 282. Six strokes separate third through seventh.

Junior Chad Ring turned in his second best round as a Hawk with a 1-over 72 in the opening round and is tied for 22nd. Junior Addison Lambeth shot a 2-over 73 and senior David James and freshman Stephen Shephard each shot 3-over 74. Junior Will Thrash shot a 4-over 75.

Texas-Tyler's Buddy Hallman set the pace on Sunday with a 6-under 65. Hallman leads the field by three strokes. Five golfers shot in the 60s in the opening round.
