Huntingdon in first after Rd. 1 of Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 6-over-par 294 on Monday in the opening round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate.

The 10th-ranked Hawks lead the 12-team field entering Tuesday's final round at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club. Piedmont is two strokes behind the Hawks at 296 and Mary Hardin-Baylor is third at 299. The Huntingdon B-Team is eighth at 307.

"I'm very pleased with the position we are in after the first round," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We struggled early and we had to scramble out there. I think everyone was scrambling today, we just scrambled a little better than everyone else."

Junior Addison Lambeth, who is ranked ninth in Division III, led the Hawks with a 2-under 70. Lambeth is one stroke off the lead and tied for second with Piedmont's Jake Forbes.

LaGrange's Logan Lanier, the top-ranked golfer in Division III, leads the field with a 3-under 69.

Behind Lambeth, freshman Stephen Shephard shot an even-par 72, sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland shot a 3-over 75 and junior Will Thrash and senior David James each shot 77.

For the Huntingdon B-Team, junior Chad Ring had a 2-over 74 and junior Wesley Etheredge followed with a 3-over 75. Sophomore Chase Feagin and freshman Joaquin Trigueros each shot 79 and freshman Sterling Dixon shot 90.
