Lambeth’s 67 leads Hawks in Rd. 1 of Emory Spring Invitational

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Addison Lambeth and the Huntingdon men's golf team started strong in the Emory Spring Invitational on Sunday.

Lambeth fired his best round as a Hawk with a 3-under-par 67 and leads the field by three strokes entering Monday's final round at Smoke Rise Country Club. As a team, the Hawks shot 14-over 294 and are in a three-way tie for first.

In a field that features five top-10 teams and five other teams ranked in the top-25, the eighth-ranked Hawks are tied for first with fifth-ranked Oglethorpe and 15th-ranked Emory. Ninth-ranked Rhodes is two strokes back at 296.

"We were riding a roller coaster today," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We would look great for a stretch, then we would make some big numbers and have to work our way back into the lead.

"I gained a few more gray hairs today, but even with the drama, it is good to be tied for the lead."

Lambeth's round on Sunday was one stroke better than his previous best at Huntingdon. Lambeth, the seventh-ranked golfer in Division III, has shot par or better in eight straight rounds.

Spalding's Jonathon Gandia and Emory's Connor Yakubov are tied for second at even-par 70.

Behind Lambeth, junior Chad Ring shot 4-over 74 for the Hawks and is tied for 18th and senior David James shot 5-over 75 and is tied for 21st. Freshman Stephen Shephard shot 78 and junior Will Thrash shot 79.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Jon Colten Stanaland shot 78.
