MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's Will Thrash shot a 4-under-par 68 on Monday to tie for second and qualify for the 110th Southern Amateur Championship.
"The Southern Amateur is one of the top 10 amateur events in the country," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Just to be in that field is an honor and Thrash played solid and beat a lot of talented golfers in the state."
The Southern Amateur will be held on July 14-17 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Five players qualified for the Southern Amateur from the 38-player field that was held at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery.
"Having the qualifier at Wynlakes was great for me," Thrash said. "Being able to practice and play there during the season with the team was a nice advantage for me. I am happy I was able to capitalize on the opportunity."
Joining Thrash in the qualifier were teammates David James and Addison Lambeth. James just missed out on qualifying for the Southern Amateur, shooting a 2-under 70. Lambeth shot an even-par 72.
