Huntingdon men’s golf ranked No. 1

NORMAN, Okla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team is ranked No. 1 in Division III with the release of the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll on Friday.

The Hawks' dominant performance in the first two events of the fall helped Huntingdon pick up 14 first-place votes and a total of 485 points. Wittenberg is second with 413 points and preseason No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is ranked third with five first-place votes and 412 points.

Three other USA South Athletic Conference teams are ranked in the poll. Methodist is fifth, Greensboro is 15th and LaGrange is 18th

Huntingdon has two wins in two events this fall. In an 18-team field with 16 nationally ranked teams, the Hawks opened the fall with a 21-stroke win in the NCAA Division III Fall Preview.

Huntingdon followed up with a 30-stroke win in the Gordin Collegiate Classic. As one of seven top-10 teams in the 12-team field, the Hawks set their NCAA-era record for 54 holes with a 5-under-par 847.

Huntingdon returns to action on Oct. 9 in the Golfweek D3 Preview in Destin, Fla.
