Thrash and Lambeth lead No. 1 Hawks in Rd. 1 of O’Briant-Jensen

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Huntingdon seniors Will Thrash and Addison Lambeth are in first and second and the top-ranked Hawks lead the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial after Monday's opening round.

Thrash fired a 5-under-par 66 on Monday and Lambeth shot a 4-under 67 to lead the field of 81 golfers.

Entering Tuesday's final round, Huntingdon's 7-under 277 leads the 15-team field by 13 strokes. Fourth-ranked Wittenberg is second with a 6-over 290 and seventh-ranked Methodist is third with a 7-over 291.

"The Cardinal is one of the toughest Pete Dye-designed courses you will find. Today was not our lowest round of the season, but it was quite possibly our best round," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "Will and Addison just played excellent. We have one more round and we just need to stick to our game plan."

Thrash's 66 is the second best round of his Huntingdon career and his third round in the 60s this fall. Lambeth's 67 is tied for his second best round as a Hawk and is his third round in the 60s this season.

Lambeth, who is ranked No. 1 in Golfstat's Division III rankings, and Thrash, who is ranked No. 3, have each shot par-or-better in six of their 10 rounds this fall.

Huntingdon senior Chad Ring, who is ranked 36th, shot an even-par 71 on Monday and is tied for seventh. Sophomore Stephen Shephard shot a 2-over 73 and is tied for 18th. Freshman Alex Rogers shot 79 in the opening round.
