Thrash and Hawks win O’Briant-Jensen Memorial

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Will Thrash and the No. 1-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team closed out the fall season with another strong performance in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial on Tuesday.

Thrash captured medalist honors by four strokes with an 8-under-par 134 and the Hawks won the team title by nine strokes with a 3-under 565. This is the second straight season Huntingdon has won the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial.

Thrash's win was his second of the season and the third of his Huntingdon career. The team victory was the third in four tournaments this fall for the Hawks.

Huntingdon shot 7-under 277 on Monday and 4-over 288 on Tuesday. Sixteenth-ranked Guilford was second with a 6-over 574 and fourth-ranked Wittenberg was third with a 15-over 583.

Huntingdon's two-round 565 is the second best 36-hole total for the Hawks during the NCAA era. Huntingdon set its NCAA-era record earlier this fall with a 551 in the first two rounds of the Gordin Classic.

"This has been a great fall season for our team," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We've played solid, week-after-week. It's nice to see our guys raising the bar."

Thrash, the No. 3 golfer in Golfstat's Division III rankings shot a 5-under-par 66 in the opening round and a 3-under 68 in the final round. The 8-under-par 134 is Thrash's best 36-hole total as a Hawk and one stroke off of Huntingdon's NCAA-era record held by Addison Lambeth. Thrash's performance set the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial scoring record.

In four tournaments this fall, Thrash has two wins and one third-place finish. In 11 rounds, the Prattville native has shot par-or-better seven times.
