NCAA announces field for Division III Men’s Golf Championships

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The top-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team will be one of 42 teams competing in the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on May 16-19 at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The NCAA selection committee announced the field on Monday.

This is Huntingdon's second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the 10th since 2005. The Hawks were the national runner-up last season.

A total of 33 teams received an automatic berth in the tournament as conference champions. Two teams were chosen from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.

Seven Pool C bids are reserved for teams from automatic-qualifying conferences, who did not win their conference, and the remaining Pool B teams. The top five individuals who have not qualified with a team, round out the field of 215 golfers.

Huntingdon was one of four USA South Athletic Conference teams to earn a berth in the national tournament. Fifth-ranked Methodist, which won the USA South Tournament title, received the automatic qualifier. Top-ranked Huntingdon, sixth-ranked LaGrange and 10th-ranked Greensboro each received Pool C bids. Ferrum's Brandon Bailey qualified as an individual.
