Schreyer named finalist for Dave Williams Award

NORMAN, Okla. – Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer is one of five finalists for Division III Coach of the Year.

The finalists for the Dave Williams Award were announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday. The Williams Award and Regional Coach of the Year recipients will be announced on June 5.

Joining Schreyer as finalists are Mary Hardin-Baylor's Jordan Cox, Carnegie Mellon's Dan Rodgers, Wittenberg's Jeff Roope and Emory's John Sjoberg.

Schreyer, who has been named the USA South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year each of the past two seasons, was the Southeast Region Coach of the Year in 2016. Coming off a national runner-up finish in the 2016 Division III NCAA Men's Golf Championship, Schreyer's team has been ranked No. 1 for most of the 2016-17 season.

Entering this week's NCAA Tournament, the Hawks have won five tournaments and placed in the top four in all nine events this season. The five wins are tied for the second most in a season by a Huntingdon team during the NCAA era.

The Hawks are averaging 289.2 strokes per round. The per round average is more than eight strokes better than last year and more than three strokes better than the Hawks' NCAA-era record.
