Gee leads men’s golf in SAA Preview

DICKSON, Tenn. – Junior Henry Gee earned medalist honors and the Huntingdon men's golf team opened the fall season with a third-place finish in the eight-team SAA Men's Conference Preview. 

The two-round tournament was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday and Monday. Due to the weather forecast for Monday, all 36 holes were played on Sunday. 

Gee, who was playing in his first tournament as a Hawk, shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish with a 3-under 141.

As a team, the Hawks shot 5-over 581 to place third. Huntingdon finished two strokes out of first. The Hawks led the field after Round 1 with a 1-over 289 and shot 4-over 292 in the final round.

Oglethorpe and Sewanee each shot 3-over 579 to tie for first.

Henry Gee: 71-70 – 141 (1st of 69)

Drew Mathers: 72-74 – 146 (T8th)

Mark Connelly: 72-76 – 148 (22nd)

Stephen Shephard: 76-73 – 149 (T23rd)

Jon Colten Stanaland: 74-75 – 149 (T23rd)

Alex Aulerich: 77-76 – 153 (T38th)

 

Director of Golf Dave Schreyer on Sunday: "It was a disappointing finish for the boys after leading in the first round. But, we are a young team and it is a learning experience. I'm very happy for Henry. Winning his first collegiate event is a great start to his career here at Huntingdon."
