Huntingdon ranked No. 1 in Division III Bushnell Golfweek Poll

NORMAN, Okla.  – The Huntingdon men's golf team is the new No. 1 team in Division III with the release of the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll on Friday.

The Hawks received four first-place votes and a total of 434 points in the poll. Huntingdon began the fall season ranked fifth and climbed to second before moving into first.

The University of Texas-Tyler, which was ranked No. 1 in the first two polls of the season, is now second with 11 first-place votes and 430 points.

Huntingdon is one of four USA South Athletic Conference teams ranked in the poll. Joining the Hawks are fifth-ranked Methodist, 11th-ranked Greensboro and 21st-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan.

Director of Golf Dave Schreyer on the No. 1 ranking: "It is exciting to see the guys grab the No. 1 spot. Losing your top three players to graduation like we did would hurt most teams. But I think this shows the depth we have and the hard work these guys were putting in last year, even when some of them weren't part of our top five.

"To have a dominant program, you have to have kids who buy in, whether their opportunity is in the current year or the next. These guys push each other and every week we seem to have a new face in the top five. All of my mentors taught me to create the culture and then let the golfers compete to play. That is what we're trying to do and it is exciting to watch these motivated young men continue to compete."
