Second-ranked Hawks in 5th after Rd. 1 of Callaway Gardens Invitational

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team opened the spring season with a 7-over-par 295 in the first round of the Callaway Gardens Invitational on Monday.

In an 18-team field that includes eight top-20 teams, the Hawks are in fifth entering Tuesday's final round.

Eighteenth-ranked Oglethorpe leads the field with a 3-under 285. Sixth-ranked Methodist is second at 2-over 290, LaGrange is third at 3-over 291 and fifth-ranked Emory is fourth at 4-over 292.

Junior Henry Gee led the Hawks with a 1-under 71 and is tied for fifth. Senior Jon Colten Stanaland is two strokes behind Gee and tied for 16th with a 1-over 73 and sophomore Drew Mathers is tied for 26th with a 2-over 74.

Rounding out the Hawks' top-five, junior Stephen Shephard shot 5-over 77 and is tied for 53rd and junior Mark Connelly shot 6-over 78 and is tied for 63rd.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Alex Aulerich shot 2-over 74 and is tied for 26th.

Emory's Matt Organisak and Rhodes' Corrie Kuehn each shot 3-under 69 and are tied for the tournament lead.

 

Director of Golf Dave Schreyer on Monday's round: "We got off to a very good start, but we lost our momentum with our play on the par-5 holes. We're going to need a good round on Tuesday."

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in Round 2 of the Callaway Gardens Invitational on Tuesday.
