Huntingdon climbs to 2nd in Rd. 2 of USA South Tournament

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Junior Stephen Shephard climbed two spots and the Huntingdon men's golf team climbed one spot in the second round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.

In third place after Round 1, the Hawks turned in Friday's best round to move into second place. After shooting a 7-over-par 295 in the first round, Huntingdon followed up with a 9-over 297 in Round 2. The Hawks are at 16-over 592 entering Saturday's final round.

First-place Methodist is four strokes ahead of the Hawks with a 12-over 588. North Carolina Wesleyan is seven strokes behind Huntingdon and in third with a 23-over 599.

Shephard shot an even-par 72 for the second straight round and is three strokes out of first and in third with a 144. North Carolina Wesleyan's Grady Anderson shot a 1-over 73 on Friday and leads the field with a 3-under 141 after two rounds. Greensboro's Scott Campbell is second with a 1-under 143.

Behind Shephard, sophomore Drew Mathers shot a 1-over 73 in the second round and is tied for seventh with a 3-over 147 after two rounds.

Senior Jon Colten Stanaland and juniors Henry Gee and Mark Connelly each shot 4-over 76 in the second round. With one round remaining, Stanaland is 15th with a 6-over 150, Gee is tied for 16th with a 7-over 151 and Connelly is tied for 18th with an 8-over 152.
