Opening round of NCAA Tournament suspended due to weather

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team completed the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday. But almost half the field has yet to complete Round 1.

The first round was suspended due to weather with 18 of the 42 teams still on the course at the Grandover Resort. The round is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning. Round 2 will begin following the completion of the first round.

Second-ranked Huntingdon shot 16-over-par 304 on Tuesday and is listed as tied for 26th. Among teams that completed the first round, Huntingdon is 14th.

Emory University and Guilford College share the lead at 5-under 283. Washington and Lee is third at 4-over 292. Greensboro, which has not completed Round 1, is also 4-over.

"Today was very unexpected," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "We started with high expectations but a poor start just took the wind out of our sails. We're going to need a good comeback in Round 2."

Junior Mark Connelly and senior Jon Colten Stanaland each shot 2-over 74 are tied for 43rd to lead Huntingdon. Junior Stephen Shephard shot 4-over 76 and sophomores Drew Mathers and Alex Aulerich each shot 8-over 80.

Guilford's Zach Evens leads the field with a 4-under 68. Emory's Matt Organisak and Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Ryan Isaacson are tied for second at 3-under 69.
