Shephard’s 71 paces Huntingdon in Rd. 3 of NCAA Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's golf team turned in its best round of this year's NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship with a 7-over-par 295 on Thursday.

Entering Friday's final round at Grandover Resort, the Hawks are 14th with a three-round total of 896.

Methodist University leads the 18-team field with a 1-under 863. Washington and Lee is second at 9-over 873 and Guilford College is third at 12-over 876.

Junior Stephen Shephard turned in Huntingdon's best round of the tournament with a 1-under 71 on Thursday. Through three rounds, Shephard is tied for 28th with a 5-over 221.

Senior Jon Colten Stanaland is also tied for 28th with a 5-over 221. Stanaland shot a 3-over 75 in the third round. Junior Mark Connelly shot a 5-over 77 in Round 3 and is tied for 55th with a 10-over 226.

Sophomore Drew Mathers shot an even-par 72 in the third round and is tied for 66th with a 12-over 228. Sophomore Alex Aulerich shot a 5-over 77 on Thursday and is tied for 87th with a three-round 236.

Washington and Lee's Brian Peccie recorded his third straight under-par round and leads the tournament with a 7-under 209. Greensboro's Levi Grogan is second with a 4-under 212.
