Three Hawks named to Ping All-America teams

NORMAN, Okla. – Three Huntingdon golfers were recognized with the release of the Golf Coaches Association of America's finalized Division III Ping All-America teams on Wednesday.

Juniors Stephen Shephard and Mark Connelly were both named second-team All-America and senior Jon Colten Stanaland was an honorable mention selection.

The second-team, third-team and honorable mention teams were announced on Wednesday. The first-team was named in May during the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.

The three Huntingdon golfers helped lead the Hawks to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season. Huntingdon finished in the top three in nine of 11 tournaments this season and the team's scoring average of 292.89 was the third best for the Hawks during the NCAA era.

This is the second straight season Shephard has been recognized. Shephard was also a second-team selection last season.

Shephard led the Hawks with a 72.89 scoring average in 28 rounds this season. His scoring average is the third best by a Hawk during the NCAA era. Shephard won the DIII Golfweek Fall Invitational and finished in the top-10 in six of 11 tournaments. He finished with 10 rounds of par or better, tied for the fourth most by a Hawk during the NCAA era.

Connelly finished with a 73.32 scoring average in 28 rounds, the fifth best scoring average for a Hawk during the NCAA era. He placed in the top-six in four tournaments, including one win and two second-place finishes. He won the O'Briant Jensen Memorial and placed second in the Emory Invitational and tied for second in the Tournament Town Preview. Connelly finished with seven rounds of par or better.

Stanaland averaged 74.04 in 28 rounds for the 12th best scoring average by a Huntingdon golfer during the NCAA era. Stanaland led the team with 11 rounds of par or better, the third best total by a Hawk during the NCAA era, and finished in the top-10 in three tournaments. He won the Emory Invitational and recorded the Hawks' best round of the season with a career-best 3-under 67 in the Emory Invitational.

Ten golfers from the USA South Athletic Conference were recognized on the All-America teams.
