Third-ranked Huntingdon finishes 5th in NCAA Fall Preview

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 299 in the final round of the NCAA Tournament Fall Preview at Keene Trace Golf Club on Tuesday.

In an 18-team field that included 15 nationally ranked teams, the Hawks finished fifth with a three-round total of 893. Second-ranked Emory won the 18-team tournament with a 2-over-par 866.

Eleventh-ranked Wittenberg was second with a 26-over 890 and fifth-ranked Washington and Lee and seventh-ranked Illinois Wesleyan tied for third at 892.

Junior Drew Mathers and senior Stephen Shephard both finished in the top-16 for Huntingdon. Mathers shot 4-over 76 in the final round and finished 13th with a 5-over 221 for the tournament. Shephard shot 1-over 73 on Tuesday and tied for 16th with a 7-over 223.

Washington and Lee's Brian Peccie won the tournament with a 5-under 211.  Peccie shot a 2-under 70 in the final round.

Senior Henry Gee recorded Huntingdon's best round on Tuesday with an even-par 72 and finished 27th with a 10-over 226.

Freshman Walker Winslette and senior Mark Connelly both shot 6-over 78 in the final round. Winslette tied for 28th with an 11-over 227 and Connelly finished with a three-round 233.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the Rhodes College Men's Invitational on Sept. 23-24.
