Huntingdon finishes sixth in Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot an 11-over-par 299 in the final round of the Gordin Classic on Tuesday and finished the three-round tournament with an 18-over 882.

In a 13-team field that featured 11 nationally ranked teams, the Hawks finished sixth. Fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with a 14-under 850 and No. 1 Emory was second with an 8-under 856.

Illinois Wesleyan's Rob Wuethrich earned medalist honors with a 7-under 209.

Huntingdon freshman Carson Whitton finished seven strokes out of first and tied for 12th with an even-par 216. After shooting 1-under 71 in each of the first two rounds, Whitton shot a 2-over 74 in the final round.

Senior Stephen Shephard shot a 2-over 74 in the final round and tied for 24th with a 4-over 220. One stroke behind Shephard, junior Drew Mathers tied for 26th with a 5-over 221.  

Senior Henry Gee tied for 39th with a 10-over 226 and sophomore Ben Harris tied for 48th with a 14-over 230.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the Golfweek DIII Invitational on Oct. 14-16 in Destin, Fla.
