Shephard and Gee lead Hawks in Rd. 1 of Golfweek DIII Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. – The third-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot 5-over-par 289 in the opening round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Sunday.                     

Entering Monday's second round at the Raven Golf Club, Huntingdon is tied for fourth in field of 18 teams. The tournament features 13 nationally ranked teams. 

Top-ranked Emory leads the tournament with a 12-under 272 and 12th-ranked Southwestern University is second with a 2-under 282. Eleventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon is third with a 1-over 285.

Emory's Eric Yiu turned in Sunday's best round with a 5-under 66. Huntingdon seniors Stephen Shephard and Henry Gee were among the 21 golfers to shoot par or better in the opening round.

Shephard and Gee each shot even-par 71 to lead the Hawks and are tied for 15th. Senior Mark Connelly is two shots behind Shephard and Gee and tied for 28th with a 2-over 73. Freshman Carson Whitton shot a 3-over 74 and is tied for 36th and junior Drew Mathers shot a 4-over 75 and is tied for 45th.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the second round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Monday.
