Mathers named USA South Golfer of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Drew Mathers was named the USA South Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

This is the first Golfer of the Week release of the fall season.

Mathers was recognized for his performance in winning the NCAA DIII Fall Preview and helping the Hawks to a third-place finish. In a three-round tournament that featured 11 of the top 12 teams in Division III and 15 nationally ranked teams, Mathers shot a 6-under-par 210 to win by four strokes.

The win was the fifth of his collegiate career. The five wins are tied for the most by a Hawk during the NCAA era.

After shooting a 2-under 70 and a 2-over 74 in the first two rounds, the Mobile native fired his best round as a Hawk with a 6-under 66 in the final round. The 66 is two strokes off the Hawks' NCAA-era record for a single round and the six strokes under par tied the program's NCAA-era record.
