Mathers earns second USA South Golfer of the Week recognition of the fall

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon senior Drew Mathers was recognized as the USA South Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

Mathers has been the conference Golfer of the Week for the first two awards of the fall season.

Mathers received the recognition for his performance in winning the Rhodes College Fall Classic with a 14-under-par 202. Mathers opened the three-round tournament with a 7-under 65, shot a 2-under 70 in the second round and closed the event with a 5-under 67.

The play of Mathers and his teammates helped the Hawks win the 20-team event by 27 strokes with an 18-under 846.

With the individual win, Mathers became the Hawks' NCAA-era leader in career wins with six. In his last eight events dating to the fall of 2018, Mathers has five wins, two runner-up finishes and one third-place finish.

During the Rhodes College Fall Classic, Mathers set the Hawks' NCAA-era records for most strokes under-par in a single round (seven), most strokes under-par for 54 holes (14) and best 54-hole total (202). His 65 in the opening round was one-stroke off the program's NCAA-era single-round record of 64 and one stroke better than Mathers' previous best collegiate round.
