Huntingdon in 3rd, Bruce tied for 4th in Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. – Junior Connor Bruce fired his best round as a Hawk and the Huntingdon men's golf team opened the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational with a 1-under-par 283 on Sunday.

The third-ranked Hawks are in third place and three strokes out of first entering Monday's second round at the Raven Golf Course. The 18-team tournament features 15 nationally ranked teams. Top-ranked Emory leads the tournament with a 4-under 280 and 24th-ranked Greensboro is second with a 2-under 282.

In his first season with the Hawks, Bruce shot a season-best 3-under-par 68 in the opening round. Bruce is four strokes off the lead and tied for fourth. Illinois Wesleyan's Rob Wuethrich leads the tournament with a 7-under 64.

In addition to Bruce, three other Hawks are within 10 strokes of first. Junior Owen Burt is six strokes off the lead and tied for 14th with a 1-under 70. Senior Drew Mathers is eight strokes out of first and tied for 30th at 1-over 72 and sophomore Carson Whitton is nine strokes out of first and tied for 37th with a 2-over 73.

Rounding out the top-five, sophomore Walker Hinds shot 80.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the second round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Monday.
