Hawks tied for 2nd entering final round of Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 4-under-par 280 in the second round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Monday and is tied for second entering Tuesday's final round at the Raven Golf Course.

With a 5-under 563 through two rounds, the third-ranked Hawks are four strokes out of first and tied with top-ranked Emory. Second-ranked Illinois Wesleyan leads the field with a 9-under 559. The 18-team tournament includes 15 nationally ranked teams.

Huntingdon's two-round 563 is the third best 36-hole total by the Hawks during the NCAA era.

With one round to play, four Huntingdon golfers are in the top-20 and junior Connor Bruce and senior Drew Mathers are in the top-eight. Bruce shot a 1-under 70 on Monday and is six strokes off the lead and tied for sixth with a 4-under 138 for the tournament. Mathers shot 3-under 68 on Monday and is tied for eighth with a 2-under 140.

Sophomore Carson Whitton shot a 2-under 69 in the second round and is 19th with an even-par 142. Junior Owen Burt shot 2-over 73 in the second round and is tied for 20th with a 1-over 143. Rounding out the Hawks' top-five, sophomore Walker Hinds shot 5-over 76 on Monday and has a two-round total of 156.

Illinois Wesleyan's Rob Wuethrich leads the tournament with a 10-under 132.  

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in the final round of the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
