Huntingdon men’s lacrosse falls at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Wednesday marked the first meeting between Alabama's only two Division III men's lacrosse programs.

Experience made a difference as first-year Huntingdon fell to fourth-year Birmingham-Southern 27-2. The game was just the second for the Hawks (1-1). It was the 49th game for the Panthers (2-1).

BSC led 7-1 after one period and 16-2 at the half.

A rough two-minute stretch early in the second period allowed BSC to pull away and the first minute of the third period helped the Panthers extend their lead. BSC scored seven goals in a span of two minutes and 28 seconds to start the second period. The Panthers scored four goals in the first 63 seconds of the second half.

Gavin Carey and Steven Gernatt scored Huntingdon's goals and Brandon Sewell had an assist. Sewell also had eight ground balls and took 10 of the Hawks' 22 shots for the game.

Goalie Spencer Nix had nine saves for the Hawks.

As a team, the Panthers took 57 shots. Erik Klein led BSC with six goals and six assists.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday at Samford Stadium. The Hawks host the first-year Augustana Vikings at 1 p.m.
