Huntingdon men's lacrosse gets by Rhodes for second straight win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team set the tone in the first period and knocked off Rhodes 13-10 on Sunday at Samford Stadium.

The Hawks (3-2) jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it. Rhodes (0-3) kept the game close, but couldn't pull closer than three goals in the final three periods.

Brandon Sewell and Gavin Carey each scored twice in the first period as the Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Hawks built their largest lead, six goals, in the second period when a Michael Brunick goal made it 9-3 with 8:12 left in the half. Rhodes answered and made it a 10-7 game at the half, but Huntingdon stretched its lead back to five goals early in the fourth period.

Carey finished with four goals and three ground balls for Huntingdon and Sewell had three goals, two assists, 12 ground balls and was 17-for-25 in faceoffs. Brunick added two goals and an assist and Tyler Campbell scored twice. Ryan Rees had one goal and five groundballs and Garrison Johnson scored once.

Goalie Spencer Nix recorded 10 saves.

Huntingdon took 42 shots to Rhodes' 34.

Hugh Madison led Rhodes with six goals.

The Hawks return to Samford Stadium next weekend. Huntingdon hosts Hendrix on Saturday at noon.
