Huntingdon men’s lacrosse comes up short against Division II Young Harris

ATLANTA -- The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team rallied after a slow start but came up short 12-11 against Division II Young Harris.

The Mountain Lions (2-1) took a 6-1 lead in the first period and led 9-5 at halftime. Huntingdon (2-2) battled back with six goals in the second half.

"We came out flat in the first quarter. We can't do that with any team," Huntingdon head coach Andrew Carey said. "It was very impressive to see our young team work hard to battle back. We tied the game 11-11 with less than five minutes to go. They went back up with less than three minutes to play. We had a chance to tie it again with 40 seconds to play but their keeper made a great save to seal the game."

Jakob Works scored five goals for the Hawks and had one assist and six ground balls. Gavin Carey added four goals. Brandon Sewell and Mike Kazmarik each scored one goal. Sewell also had eight ground balls. Karson Hastings had four assists.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded 11 saves.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Saturday, hosting Ferrum at 2 p.m.
