Works’ late goal leads Huntingdon men’s lacrosse past Augustana

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman Jakob Works scored in the final two minutes to lift the Huntingdon men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Augustana on Saturday.

Augustana beat the Hawks 11-2 last season.

"This is a huge win for us," Huntingdon head coach Andrew Carey said. "They beat us pretty handily last season and it's exciting to see us show so much improvement in one year. Our guys really showed their character today."

Huntingdon (3-3) rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the second half and took a 9-8 lead on a Brandon Sewell goal with 8:33 left in the game. The Vikings (1-2) tied the game with 3:26 to play before Works came through with his fifth goal of the game with 1:56 remaining.

Augustana got off one final shot as time expired, but the shot was wide.

Behind Works' five goals, Sewell added three goals and Mike Kazmarik and Anthony Rovetto each scored once. Sewell also had two assists, nine ground balls and won nine faceoffs. Kazmarik had one assist.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded 12 saves and six ground balls.

Huntingdon returns to action on Monday, hosting Oglethorpe at 3 p.m.
