Huntingdon men’s lacrosse sets new program record for wins in a season

ALMA, Mich. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team took a six-goal lead in the first half and knocked off Alma College 10-1 on Monday.

The one goal allowed is a record for the second-year Huntingdon program. In 26 games the past two seasons, Huntingdon's previous best was four goals allowed. In 11 games this season, Huntingdon has held opponents to single-digit scoring six times and to five goals or less in three games.

Monday's win was the sixth of the season for the Hawks (6-5), breaking last year's mark of five wins in 15 games.

Mike Kazmarik scored five goals to lead Huntingdon and Gavin Carey and Jakob Works each scored two goals and had one assist. Works also had five ground balls. Works, who has 32 goals this season, broke the Hawks' previous record for goals in a season during Huntingdon's last game.

Brandon Sewell added one goal, three assists, eight ground balls and won 7-of-12 faceoffs against Alma. Dylan Byrum, Anthony Rovetto and Karson Hastings each added one assist and Davis Dalton finished with five ground balls.

Sewell, who held the Hawks' season record for goals (28) and assists (14) after the first season, now has 16 assists this year.

Starting goalie Fabien Gutierrez finished with seven saves in a little more than 52 minutes and Kristian Smith added one save.

Huntingdon plays at Aurora on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
