Men’s lacrosse picks up first win against Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team scored seven goals in the third period to rally past Birmingham-Southern for a 12-9 win Wednesday night at Samford Stadium.

The win was the third-year lacrosse program's first against Birmingham-Southern.

Huntingdon (1-1) trailed 5-2 in the first half and 5-3 at halftime before outscoring the Panthers 7-0 in the third. From the 4:54 mark in the second period to the 13:11 mark in the fourth period, Huntingdon scored nine straight goals.

Birmingham-Southern (0-2) answered with four late goals to make it an 11-9 game with 4:28 to play but LaDarius Williams scored on an assist from Brandon Sewell in the final two minutes to help the Hawks finish out the win.

Jakob Works led Huntingdon with four goals and Williams finished with three goals and five ground balls. Sewell had four assists, one goal, 11 ground balls and won 13-of-18 faceoffs.

Mike Kasmarik had two goals and an assist, Brandon Scheele and Patrick Messenger each scored one goal and Tyler Campbell had an assist. Ryan Steele recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers and Josh Clayton had two caused turnovers.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez finished with 10 saves.

Huntingdon travels to Berry on Saturday for a noon game.
