Huntingdon men’s lacrosse loses at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team matched Southwestern for three periods on Wednesday, but the Pirates escaped with a 9-8 win.

Southwestern (6-4) opened the fourth period with three straight goals to take a 9-6 lead before the Hawks (7-5) scored two goals in the final three minutes.

Jakob Works scored on an assist from LaDarius Williams with 2:39 left and Brandon Sewell scored an unassisted goal with 1:51 to play to make it a one-goal game. The Hawks took three shots in the final 30 seconds but could not tie the game.

Works finished with five goals and four ground balls, Sewell had two goals, two assists and won 5-of-6 faceoffs and Mike Kasmarik had one goal. Patrick Messenger had an assist and Josh Clayton had five ground balls. Brandon Scheele won 8-of-14 faceoffs.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded 12 saves and five ground balls for the Hawks.

Huntingdon travels to Shorter on April 2.
