Sewell’s six goals lead men’s lacrosse past Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half and knocked off Piedmont 18-11 on Saturday.

With the win, the third-year Hawks recorded their first 10-win season. Huntingdon is now 2-1 against Piedmont in three seasons.

"This was a strong finish to a hard-fought season," Huntingdon head coach Andrew Carey said. "I'm proud of the team and what we accomplished this season. We look forward to building off of this success as we move forward."

Leading 8-7 at the half, Huntingdon (10-6) outscored Piedmont (6-8) 10-4 in the second half.

Junior Brandon Sewell scored the first and last goals of the game for Huntingdon and matched his career-high with six goals for the game. It was the second time in three games that Sewell has scored six goals.

Sewell scored four goals in the first 6:05 of the game as the Hawks built a 6-0 lead in the first period. Sewell also had 13 ground balls and won 17-of-25 faceoffs.

Jakob Works added four goals and an assist to give him a Huntingdon record 56 goals for the season. Brandon Scheele had two goals and an assist, Mike Kasmarik scored two goals and Patrick Messenger finished with a goal and two assists. Kasmarik also had two caused turnovers.

LaDarius Williams recorded a goal and seven ground balls and Tyler Campbell and Caleb Dixon each scored one goal.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez finished with 16 saves to give him a program record 190 saves this season.
