Sewell scores 100th career goal in loss to Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team suffered its fourth loss of season, falling 7-5 at Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks (1-4) scored the game's first three goals and took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. Senior Brandon Sewell scored the first goal a little less than four minutes into the game. The goal was the 100th of his Huntingdon career, making him just the second Hawk to reach the milestone. Junior Jakob Works scored his 100th goal in the final game last season.

A little more than a minute after Sewell scored his 100th goal, freshman Patrick Rowe scored his first career goal on an assist from LaDarius Williams. Williams added a goal of his own to make it 3-0, less than eight minutes into the game.

The Pioneers (1-1) answered with four straight goals and took a 4-3 lead midway through the third quarter. Huntingdon's Kendrick Ballard tied the game late in the third quarter and Sewell gave the Hawks a 5-4 lead just 49 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Transylvania responded with three goals in a little more than three minutes to regain the lead and the momentum.

Starting goalie Fabien Gutierrez recorded nine saves and allowed two goals in the first half. Kristian Smith made ten saves and allowed five goals in the second half.

Josh Clayton recorded two caused turnovers and Brandon Scheele was 7-of-15 on faceoffs.

Huntingdon returns to action on Thursday, hosting Otterbein University at 4 p.m.
