MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team fell behind by four goals in the first half and lost to Rhodes College 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Samford Stadium.

Huntingdon (1-6) pulled within a goal twice in the second half but Rhodes (4-2) was able to maintain its lead.

Trailing 4-0 in the second half, Huntingdon scored three goals in a little more than two minutes to make it a 4-3 game. Kendrick Ballard scored on an assist from Davis Dalton with 13:48 left in the third period. Dalton added a goal with 12:11 left in the period and LaDarius Williams scored 24 seconds later to make it a one goal game a little more than three minutes into the second half.

Rhodes answered and carried a 5-3 lead into the fourth quarter and made it 6-3 with 8:50 left in the game. Williams added another goal for Huntingdon with 7:12 to play and Brandon Sewell scored with 1:51 left in the game to make it a one-goal game.

Huntingdon had an opportunity to tie the game in the final minute. Coming out of a timeout with 55 seconds remaining, Rhodes lost the ball in their offensive zone as Huntingdon's Glen Troxell picked up the ground ball.

Head coach Andrew Carey called timeout with 32 seconds left to set up a final play for Huntingdon. But a defensive stand by Rhodes would not allow the Hawks to take a shot until the final second when Dalton's attempt was blocked.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez started and played the entire first half and finished with five saves and four goals allowed. Kristian Smith played the entire second half and recorded six saves and allowed two goals.

Brandon Scheele went 4-for-7 on faceoffs and Sewell was also 4-for-7 on faceoffs. Sewell scooped up three ground balls.

Huntingdon returns to action on Wednesday, hosting the University of Dallas at 4 p.m.
