Huntingdon comes up short at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team fell behind early, rallied and took the lead in the second half but came up short in a 12-10 loss to Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday.

After falling behind 5-1 in the first period, Huntingdon scored five goals in the second period and took a 7-6 lead with 10 minutes to play in the third period. But Birmingham-Southern answered with four straight goals.

The Hawks (4-12) cut Birmingham-Southern's lead to one goal twice in the final nine minutes of the game, but could not overtake the Panthers (8-5). Birmingham-Southern scored its final goal with 35 seconds to play.

Jakob Works and LaDarius Williams each scored three goals to lead Huntingdon. Works also had an assist and four ground balls. Brandon Sewell scored two goals, had five ground balls and was 13-for-21 on faceoffs.

Davis Dalton and Brandon Scheele each scored one goal. Scheele was 4-for-5 on faceoffs.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez finished with eight saves and 12 goals allowed.

Huntingdon closes out the regular season at home on Saturday against Piedmont at 4 p.m.
