Hastings assists Huntingdon to third straight win

IRVING, Texas – The Huntingdon men's lacrosse team pushed its winning streak to three games, defeating the University of Dallas 17-2 on Friday.  

Senior Karson Hastings broke a program-record with seven assists in a single game. Brandon Sewell set the previous record of six assists against Dallas last season.

Jakob Works scored the game's first three goals and finished with six goals and nine shots on goal. Huntingdon (3-0) went into halftime with an 8-0 lead.

"We came out and took care of business," Huntingdon head coach Andrew Carey said. "We capitalized off of their mistakes and limited our mistakes and the guys did what we asked them to do. It was a good day."

Works added his fifth goal at the 13:26 mark in the third quarter. Huntingdon held on to a shutout for almost three quarters until the Crusaders (1-2) scored their first goal with 16 seconds left in the third.

The Hawks put four more goals in the back of the net to close out the scoring in the fourth. This marks the first time in program history that the Hawks have started the season with three straight wins. 

Hastings assisted five different players on his record setting day. The Hawks featured nine players that scored a goal in Friday's dominating performance.

Freshman Sam Hitt went 15-of-22 on faceoffs and recorded five ground balls and one assist.

Behind Hastings and Works, Brandon Scheele scored three goals while Mac Puller added two.

Kendrick Ballard and William Monlezun each had one goal and one assist. Davis Dalton, Mike George, Jackson Schrampfer and Austin Ohliger each had one goal. A.J. Harper added one assist.

On defense, Chad Ronk, Josh Clayton and Brandon Maynor combined for nine ground balls.

Goalie Fabien Gutierrez started for Huntingdon and recorded three saves while Kenneth Porter had four saves and allowed two goals in the final 26:42.

The Hawks finish their road trip on Sunday when they play Southwestern at noon.
